Ollie Pop Retro Review

Who can forget the 8 bit platformer fun that was delivered to us by the original NES system? While one can dust off their NES system that they might have around the house it might be easier to download Ollie Pop Retro on the mobile device instead. Ollie Pop Retro from 4DX Media is an 8 bit side scrolling platform game which you play a skateboarder that must perform rad Ollies over and over again. If the Ollies are too rad or not rad enough the character runs headfirst into a brick wall and presumably dies.

This game might sound a lot like a carbon copy of Flappy Bird, and while I do admit they are very similar this game performs and handles differently. Unlike Flappy Bird and the helicopter game that came before it, Ollie Pop requires that the player charges up the Ollie before performing it. The charging function does add some challenge because it is difficult at first to judge just how rad of an Ollie is required to get through the hole in the wall. Ollie Pop Retro gauges how powerful the ollie will be by displaying a graffiti emblem that grows with the amount of power the player puts in it. The bigger the graffiti text, that is oddly reminiscent of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air font, the bigger the ollie.

One very enjoyable feature of this game is the retro style that is in it. The 8 bit graphics accompanied by the 8 bit music can take anybody back to the days of the original Nintendo gaming system. Another very good feature of this game is that there is no signal required to play so it is possible to play it anywhere or anytime the urge to do some rad digital skateboard obstacle dodging action hits. As anybody can guess about this game is that it is incredibly frustrating as well as amazingly addictive. It is very very hard to put down even though I really want to because I keep hitting the wall head first. I give it a 4 out of 5.

Surprisingly a really fun substitute for Flappy Bird. I really hope the game gets more hype so my friends start playing and I can compete with someone lol I’m all by my lonesome.
